Design charts that match your swatch

Many craft charts are sketched on 1:1 square paper even though the real stitches are taller or shorter in one direction. This generator lets you dial in a custom height-to-width ratio so every block on the page behaves like a stitch in your fabric.

Typical ratios

  • Knitting: Use a ratio around 1.2–1.4 for classic 4:5 style grids where rows are slightly taller than stitches are wide.
  • Tapestry crochet: Adjust the ratio until colorwork motifs look correct on your test swatch.
  • Weaving: Match ends per inch to picks per inch so pattern blocks match your loom settings.

How to calibrate

Knit or stitch a small swatch, then measure how many rows and stitches fit into 10 cm (or 4 inches). Divide rows by stitches to get a height-to-width ratio, then set that value in the Grid Ratio control. Your paper chart will now line up with the real fabric.
