Why Gauge-Correct Grids Matter
Generic Square Paper

Sweaters sketched on standard 1:1 graph paper look perfect on the page but stretch short and wide when you knit them.
Result: cropped sleeves, distorted motifs, and a lot of ripping back.
Knitting 4:5 Gauge Grid

Our 4:5 knitting grid stretches rows vertically so each square mimics the true shape of a knit stitch.
Result: the schematic you draw matches the fabric on your needlesβno more guessing or redrawing after a swatch.

Crafter FAQs
Why is knitting graph paper not square?
Knit stitches are wider than they are tall. If you sketch sweaters on perfectly square grids, your drawing assumes each stitch is a 1:1 box. In real fabric the rows stack closer together, so motifs look squashed and proportions shift.
How does the 4:5 knitting grid fix pattern distortion?
A 4:5 grid stretches the row height so each cell better reflects a real stitch. When you draw a yoke or colorwork panel on this grid, the proportions match your blocked gauge swatch, not an idealized square.
